1. Place empty 5 gallon bucket under drain plug.
GRAVITY DOWN LIFTGATES
2. Open and lower platform. Remove the drain plug
(FIG. 16-1). Drain hydraulic fl uid from system.
Reinstall drain plug.
4. Reinstall fi ller cap (FIG. 16-2).
POWER DOWN LIFTGATES
1. Place empty 5 gallon bucket under drain plug.
3. Disconnect the white wire (FIG. 16-2) from
motor solenoid. Lower the platform while draining
hydraulic fl uid from system. Reinstall drain plug.
Reconnect the white wire to motor solenoid.
4. Remove fi ller cap (FIG. 16-2). Refi ll reservoir
until sight glass (FIG. 16-1) is half full.
6. Reinstall fi ller cap (FIG. 16-2).
CHANGING HYDRAULIC FLUID
2. Open and raise platform to vehicle bed height.
Remove the drain plug (FIG. 16-1).
CAUTION
Keep dirt, water and other contaminants from entering the hydraulic system.
Before opening the hydraulic fl uid reservoir fi ller cap, drain plug and hydrau-
lic lines, clean up contaminants that can get in the openings. Also, protect the
openings from accidental contamination.
PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
3. Remove fi ller cap (FIG. 16-2). Refi ll reservoir
until sight glass (FIG. 16-1) is half full.
5. Raise platform to vehicle bed height. Check
hydraulic fl uid again and, if needed, add more
hydraulic fl uid until sight glass (FIG. 16-1) is half
full.
+50 to +120 Degrees F - Grade ISO 32
Below + 70 Degrees F - Grade ISO 15 or MIL-H-5606
NOTE: Use correct grade of hydraulic fl uid for your location.
See TABLES 15-1 and 15-2 for recommended brands.
